Review: elf Studio Single Eyeshadow + Blush

Alrighty, let's get the crap outta the way. Sad, isn't it? I was actually very eager to get the elf Studio Single Eyeshadows and elf Studio Blush because they all looked so promising. To my dismay, they were all very much below my expectations. Fine, they're not horribly awful as far as eyeshadows and blush go especially at USD$3 each so let's just say they're not my cup of tea.

Read on for swatches and a little bit more ranting

The elf Studio Single Eyeshadows are "sheer" eyeshadows for "natural" looks. See, I'm not always mean. They're very fine textured and powdery so the colors don't adhere well to the skin and will simply fade off by mid-day. Amethyst is probably the only color that I'll bother using since it has a decent pigmentation... Packaging's pretty good actually as with most of the elf Studio Line products. The sleek black casing hold quite a large-sized pan, there's a little mirror a window so that you can easily see the color inside. Sadly, the content needs major improvement. Until then, I'm not getting any more of these. Might as well get NYX eyeshadows for rougly the same price.

You'd think that you've finally found a NARS Blush dupe but you'll be highly disappointed. There's barely any color payoff, too powdery, hardly stays on... Just very "meh". If you really do wanna give this blush a chance, try going for the darker colors. Personally, I'm done with it. Again, plus points for the packaging, which is better than NARS'. If you're looking for good quality yet affordable blush, I'd suggest Milani (Luminous, Mai Tai) or Everyday Minerals.

elf Studio Products are available via their website and in selected Target stores in the United States. Malaysian residents can get elf products via sgdrugstore.

lol, i think the blush is better than the e/s. tho it doesn't have great colour payoff, a bit of layering does the trick.

but yeah, for usd3, i rather getting something else la. :)

I don't own any of these Studio Line from ELF, thanks for your review, Milani to go then?? I haven't tried any of the Milani blushes but the e/s from Milani are GREAT!

Thanks for this Connie. Now I feel like tossing the ELF Studio e/s and blush I own. Yeah, I'll take Milani anytime!!

the original products in studio line have been great.
however, i feel elf is pushing too far with studio line's success.
i heard that the new items are mostly crappy which is so sad.
:(

Thanks for the review. I don't mind sheer blushes as I have fair skin and pigmented ones make me look like a clown. For 3USD I might try one but I'll surely pass on the eyeshadows. I'm not a fan of sheer shadows and it's a shame the texture isn't that good either.

Plue: I layered but the color fades very quickly :(

Blovet Beauty: same here. I love a lot of the elf studio products but these were really just... meh

Nikki: Milani make excellent blushers! I just ordered some of their eyeshadows. I heard they're really good too :D

msiu: yeah, NARS' packaging can disintegrate O_O

puss: no prob ;) don't throw la... donate or sell them. hehe

Lynn: yeah, I've heard that too. But I am keen on some of the new products which got good reviews such as the HD powder :)

Gio: perhaps you could still give it a try! but then again, there are so many better alternatives out there

love the review thanks! I've always been skeptical about their quality - it's nice that it's "natural" and "sheer" but I'd rather shell out a little more for color that is true to pan, at least then I can control the intensity and not just pile and pile on

For eyeshadows, I don't think I want something "sheer". Hehe. Thanks a lot for this review. I'm glad that I didn't include these eyeshadows in my Elf order.

Woah, glad I didn't get these! I actually really like the blush from the blush/bronzer compact though, it's really pretty and has good color payoff for me -- I wonder why the other blush is different?

Becks: so true! besides, affordable and good quality eyeshadows are not that hard to find. these elf ones shouldn't be an option.

Fifi: good on ya! :)

Erynn: I liked the blush from the duo a lot too. I was very surprised that the single wasn't nearly as good

Jessica: At least we tried it for ourselves eh?
