Review: Shu Uemura UV Under Base Fluid SPF20++

Makeup base has become a makeup essential for foundation-wearers. We try to keep cakey patches from alleged “touch-ups” to the minimum. Besides helping foundation to stay put throughout the day, a good base can soften the texture of the skin, making it smoother and more even. Depending on the formula, some bases control shine while others provide moisture.

What does the Shu Uemura UV Under Base Fluid SPF20++ do?

Read on for the review...

Shu Uemura UV Under Base Fluid SPF20++ is a watery beige lotion that claims to create a refined and smooth skin canvas for better foundation application.

My initial impression on this was a positive one. I felt that the base comforted my dry skin and made it look fresher, having used it under foundation and also on its own. Well, after a month-long trial, I've decided that I'm not quite pleased with it as a make-up base. By mid-day I can expect major oil slick and my foundation will start moving around. Mind you, my skin's dry.

On its own, however, the UV Under Base Fluid is quite stunning. Infused with pearl powders, the base provides a light-reflective camouflage effect that makes small imperfections (eg. unevenness, pigmentation, broken capillaries) look less apparent. I can't help but to adore the soft-focus glow as well. Oddly enough, it didn't make my skin a lot oilier than usual throughout the day compared to when I use it with foundation. I treat this product as a sunscreen for no makeup days since the formula contains sun protection. However, the SPF is kinda low so if you have fairer skin and you're gonna be exposed to direct sunlight, I'd suggest using a separate sunscreen with higher SPF. Personally, I get can get away with SPF20++

Bottom line: I dislike it as a makeup base but fancy (not passionately in love) it as a complexion enhancer

Fifi: Lol! It's smaller though! May I suggest Majolica Majorca Skin Lingerie? I think it performs really well for most skin types and very reliable as a makeup base :)

Jamilla: You're welcome! Hope it was helpful to you :)

I used to work at their counter when I was much younger and the funny thing was how all popular this UV base was. I have known women to swear by this pdt

Blovet Beauty: Yeah, the mousse version of the UV base is definitely a cult fave. I have it but i've only used it once so it's hasn't been long enough to decide if I like it or not
